#PrimaryEssentials will be a whole day of CPD aimed at Primary School Teachers by Primary School teachers- with a couple of other guests!

<p>About this Event</p><p><strong>This conference is being curated and organised by Emma Cate Stokes and Amjad Ali </strong>for Primary School teachers,  Middle and Senior Leaders, PGCE students, NQTs, Teach First, RQTs and anyone else thinking about getting into teaching! </p><p>There will be a range of sessions to choose from, covering essential skills and knowledge in teaching and learning; reading for pleasure,  writing, retrieval practice,  barriers to learning, equality and inclusion and much more.</p><p></p><p><strong>SPEAKERS INCLUDE: </strong></p><p><strong>A welcome by Mary Myatt- @MaryMyatt</strong></p><p></p><p><strong>The following speakers will be providing LIVE sessions on the day and Pre-recorded sessions for colleagues to use until the end of the academic year. There is also a Whole School CPD package ticket available. </strong></p><ul><li>Ceridwen Eccles  @Teacherglitter </li><li>Sophie Bartlett @_MissieBee </li><li>Jazz Newton @MissNewton91</li><li>Emma Cate Stokes @emmccatt</li><li>Amjad Ali @TeachLeadAAli and </li><li>Jennifer Webb @FunkyPedagogy popping in too! </li></ul><p>Session Details:</p><h1>Ceridwen Eccles:</h1><p><em><strong>Creating a culture of reading for pleasure</strong></em></p><ul><li>Why is embedding a culture of reading for pleasure in schools crucial</li><li>Exploring whole school issues around promoting reading for pleasure</li><li>Practical take away solutions to solve those issues</li></ul><p><strong><em>Retrieval Practice in the Primary Classroom</em></strong></p><ul><li>Understanding the research and science behind why retrieval practice allows children to become fluent, accurate learners who retain knowledge taught.</li><li>issues faced embedding retrieval practice in a primary setting, particularly with younger children who are as yet unable to read or write. </li><li>Useful advice to begin the journey embedding primary schools and tips and activities to take back to use in class.</li></ul><p></p><h1>Sophie Bartlett:</h1><p><em><strong>Quality, not Quantity: Starting with Sentences</strong></em></p><ul><li>Focusing on how to help children transition from the informalities of spoken English to the required formality of written English (which has been particularly pertinent after lockdown)</li><li>Looking at how to strip children’s writing back to the basics by focusing on explicit teaching of sentence construction</li><li>Exploring different techniques and strategies for sentence formation, expansion and variation which can be adapted for both Key Stages</li></ul><p><em><strong>Quality, not Quantity: Putting Sentences to Work in Longer Pieces of Writing</strong></em></p><ul><li>Looking at how to maintain quality when progressing from sentences to paragraphs and finally to longer pieces of writing</li><li>Discussing how to implement paragraph-work into a non-fiction unit of writing for KS2</li><li>Planning a narrative unit for KS2 using the sentence work from session one</li></ul><h1></h1><h1>Jazz Newton:</h1><p><em><strong>A Truly Inclusive Curriculum?</strong></em></p><ul><li>Why embedding representation of &#x27;minorities&#x27; in the wider curriculum is paramount to how children view themselves and others</li><li>Examples of opportunities for threading diverse representation throughout the wider curriculum</li><li>Reflecting on ourselves as teachers: supporting staff to understand how they can make their teaching more inclusive</li></ul><p><em><strong>Diversity in Reading </strong></em></p><ul><li>Discussing why there is need to diversify reading opportunities for children in schools and celebrate our differences</li><li>Thinking about how literature choices can be used to support sensitive topics (race, sexuality, gender, mental health, impairments etc)</li><li>Exploring some great examples of inclusive books across primary key stages</li></ul><h1></h1><h1>Emma Cate Stokes:</h1><p><em><strong>Developing a vocabulary rich culture in the classroom</strong></em></p><ul><li>Have a variety of strategies to teach new vocabulary effectively</li><li> Understand the fundamentals of SEEC and how it can be used within the classroom</li><li>Have a range of strategies to question, in order for pupils to engage in ‘reading talk’</li></ul><p><em><strong>Scaffolding and Adapting in Maths</strong></em></p><ul><li>Understand the fundamentals of C-P-A and how it can be used effectively within the classroom </li><li>Have strategies to feedback and question effectively in order to deepen mathematical thinking </li><li>Understand differentiation within the context of Maths National Curriculum</li></ul><p></p><h2>Bonus Sessions from Amjad Ali on SEND Strategies for All Students and Jennifer Webb on Metacognition for Primary Teachers</h2><h1></h1><h1>Panel Speakers include:</h1><h1>&#x27;What does the curriculum mean to you...&#x27;</h1><ul><li>@missbteaches_  Mia B</li><li>@misssdoherty  Shannen Doherty</li><li>@MrKAdams_ Kyrome Adams</li><li>@stammer_teacher - Abed Ahmed</li><p></p></ul><h2>OWN YOUR CPD!</h2><h2>Everyone who gets a ticket will also get access to PRE-RECORDED SESSIONS of the sessions till the end of June FOR INDIVIDUAL USE ONLY  </h2><h2>Once you have signed up, you will receive a link to the day/workshops the day before the event.
