In June 2024, Port Independent proudly launched Harbour Printworks CIC, a community-focused design and print shop rooted in empowering the people of Sunderland and the North East. Harbour is built to champion grassroots projects, and support young people, individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and local creative enterprises.We aim to foster creativity, enhance skills, and build a network where innovation and growth thrive. To achieve this, we are developing a printing studio and need your support to bring it to life. By attending our workshops, designed for kids and adults alike, you’ll gain hands-on experience in printmaking and creative skills and directly contribute to setting up our facility and securing essential equipment.Join us in building Harbour Printworks CIC into a vibrant hub for Sunderland’s talented and diverse community. <h2>Print &amp; Pride Workshop: The History of Queer Identity</h2>Join Auburn Langley for a Print &amp; Pride workshop exploring the communities and identities within the Queer spectrum that came before us. Using “Queer” as a reclaimed umbrella embracing the full spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities, this session invites reflection on the people who challenged boundaries and helped shape the present. Together, we’ll explore some of the trends and fashions that signaled safety and brought people together, pushing back against societal limits. Inspired by their stories, you’ll create your own expressive artwork using print and mixed-media. No pressure to make anything “perfect” — this is a space for messy, heartfelt creativity at any level. Each participant will create a scrapbooking page celebrating Queer identity, and all pages will be brought together into a collective creative book celebrating queer history, pride, and community. 📅 When: Monday, May 18th | 6–8 pm🎟️ Cost: Free — book your place (plus a free hot drink!)📍 Where: Port Independent Supported by Community Lottery Fund
