About this Event

Join us for a creative, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to make your own linocut print, inspired by the beautiful Gosforth Nature Reserve.

Take your printmaking a step further in this extended workshop, where you’ll learn how to create a multi-colour linocut print using the reduction technique.

Working from a photograph of Gosforth Nature Reserve, you’ll be guided through the process of building up your image in layers, carving and printing each stage in a different colour to create a rich, detailed final piece.

This longer session allows plenty of time to explore the technique, experiment with colour, and develop your design. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have produced your own unique multi-layered print inspired by the landscape of the reserve.

About the Tutor

Kate Miller is a North East-based printmaker and the first NHSN Artist in Residence at Gosforth Nature Reserve. Inspired by time spent outdoors, her work captures both sweeping landscapes and the small, often overlooked details of the natural world.

With over 30 years’ experience in printmaking, Kate specialises in linocut, a hands-on and accessible technique she loves for its tactile, expressive qualities. Her practice is rooted in observation, and she is passionate about encouraging others to slow down, look closely, and engage creatively with nature.

During her residency, Kate has been exploring the reserve through walking, sketching and conversation with visitors, creating new work inspired entirely by the site.
