About the session:

This webinar will explore issues of risk in the clinical setting: it's identification, assessment and management. Dr Richard Haslam, consultant psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in London, will talk about approaches that can help us conceptualise risk and how we might manage it.

Case studies will be discussed with a ProblemShared therapist to help highlight these often complex and challenging themes.

'Tolerating' risk in the therapeutic environment
Spectrum of risk including deliberate self-harm and eating disorders

About the main speaker:

Richard Haslam is consultant psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. He studied medicine at the Royal London Hospital and psychiatry at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospital, becoming a member of the Royal College in 1997. He has been a consultant for 19 years and specialises in both inpatient and community general adult psychiatry. He has a particular interest in education, being the Training Programme Director for the London Southeast core medical scheme which is the largest in Europe.

He is also Director of Foundation Training and Clinical Tutor. He has developed the use of simulated-patient tutorials with focus on communication techniques and psychopathology. He is on the Royal College Board of Examiners and is an examiner for national clinical examinations.

He is chair of the southeast tertiary referral panel which is the specialist service interface between commissioning bodies and service providers. Most importantly, he is also the Psychiatry Lead for ProblemShared.
