About this event
Join us for a landmark event as Professor Adam Hughes delivers his inaugural professorial lecture at the Scottish Association for Marine Science in Oban, a partner of UHI. This special occasion celebrates his outstanding contributions to marine research, particularly focusing on the development of the Blue Economy and its importance for the future of coastal communities.
Professor Hughes will give a lecture titled ‘Trigger's broom and the KLF, waypoints to not understanding Innovation in the Blue Economy’ describing the critical role the Blue Economy has in a just transition for coastal communities, and his personal and academic journey.
Professor Hughes is a marine ecologist who has developed a systems approach to the sustainable use of the marine environment, working closely with industry to understand how we innovate to create technologies and management frameworks that will allow us to sustainably invest in the marine environment to deliver both food and energy security. This interest in innovation has led to him being involved in two marine based start-ups.
In his presentation, Professor Hughes will reflect on his personal journey to understanding the importance of a transdisciplinary approach to innovation and the Blue Economy.
The lecture will be followed by an interactive Q&A session and a networking reception. This is an excellent opportunity for researchers, students, industry representatives and members of the public to engage with leading research in marine sciences.
