'Progress' - a visual arts installation

African Street-Style London utilises our civic spaces to showcase the influence of both historic and contemporary African creative culture

African Street-Style London

Black History Month 2019 sees African Street Style (London) present an exciting and unique portrayal of the reflections of the African Diaspora, through the delivery of a visual arts installation, across the iconic Windrush Square located in Brixton,London.
 
This beautiful short film, and supporting imagery, will be projected across buildings, from 17:00 to 22:00 on both Friday 18th and Saturday 19th October. 
 
Directed by Etienne Jospeh (<A HREF="http://www.decolonisingthearchive.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Decolonising the Archive)</A> and Ada Cotton (Imogongo Films), and produced by Jeffrey Lennon (African Street Style London) ‘Progress’  is a short film, that invites the creative arts, and curates historical archive to reflect thoughts and experiences of post-colonial legacy.  <A HREF="https://vimeo.com/363254283" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Click here to view the Trailer.</A> 
 
Using 1968 as its reference point, dedicated archive research informs the contemplations of academics, and members of the public, aligned with new compositions of music, spoken-word, dance and movement to form a poignant examinantion of a period of considerable social and political significance.

Attendees will be able to listen to the film, 'Silent Disco' style, through the provision of headphones on-site!  
 
Set within the heart of a busy, important urban setting, this installation reiterates our 'Street Style' objective of utilising and re-imagining our public spaces to present artistic practice that has been informed by the African diaspora. Since 2013, we have pursued these purposes, delivering activities and events that encourage positive associations between people and places, engendering civic pride and democratising our Towns and Neighbourhoods.
