In2scienceUK is an award winning charity passionate about addressing educational inequality and supporting young people todiscover their inner researcher, coder, engineer and data scientist.

The benefits of promoting diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) are well documented, from increasing the pipeline of STEM skilled workers, to providing opportunities for social mobility. This event will include a presentation from Dr Julie Moote, exploring the factors contributing to the STEM participation crisis, followed by an interactive panel discussion on diversity in STEM.
Hosted by In2scienceUK, in partnership with STEM Learning, this event is for STEM ambassadors, teachers, STEM professionals and those interested in hearing more about promoting diversity in STEM.

6.00pm - Exploring the factors contributing to the STEM participation 'crisis'
Dr Julie Moote, Institute of Education, UCL
The talk will outline key findings from the ASPIRES project (a ten-year longitudinal study following young people aged 10-19) looking particularly at factors related to young peoples’ aspirations and choices to pursue (or not) STEM study and work.
Julie is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Education, UCL working on the ASPIRES3 project. Julie's current research focuses on understanding young students' aspirations in science and what factors influence these aspirations. She has a particular interest in investigating how aspirations, attitudes, and self-beliefs change over time and exploring potential mediating factors. Past research has involved investigating the impact of inquiry learning environments on students' development of self-regulated processes and related motivations.

Aishaini Puvanendran, Project Manager, BenevolentAI Aishaini works at BenevolentAI, which aims to unlock the power of scientific data to make more effective drugs for people who need them. She works to address the underrepresentation or exclusion of certain groups from research data to help create equal treatment opportunities. 
Professor Marina Resmini, Head of Chemistry Department, Queen Mary University of London Marina is chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry Inclusion and Diversity Comittee.
