Propagation Protocols for Native Tree Conservation

The African Botanic Garden Network (ABGN) Technical Talk on Propagation Protocols for Native Tree Conservation will explore practical approaches to developing and applying propagation protocols to support the conservation and restoration of native tree species. Participants will be introduced to the BGCI Propagation Protocol Manual and its role in standardising propagation methods for conservation programmes. The session will feature a case study from Tooro Botanical Gardens (Uganda), highlighting the development of species-specific propagation protocol under the Right Tree in the Right Place for the Right Purpose (RTRP-Seed) Project. It will conclude with a presentation on how botanic gardens and restoration practitioners can adapt and apply these protocols in their own contexts to strengthen restoration outcomes and enhance the conservation of native trees.
