Pruning Fruit Trees: The Basics

Learn the hows and whys of basic fruit tree pruning, in a friendly, informal setting, to give you the confidence to work on your own trees.

In this class we'll demystify pruning domestic fruit trees. First we'll begin with an explanation of why fruit trees need this specialised care. Next we'll move onto pruning itself, breaking it down into three simple topics.

1. When to prune?
2. How to make pruning cuts that keep the tree healthy.
3. What to prune out, i.e. choosing which branches/other growth to remove and what kind of shape/structure to aim for?

We'll have a break in the middle and plenty of time for questions and answers. You'll be given a laminated summary of the principles covered in class to use as a guide when you do your own pruning.
