PSA Publishing Workshop

Political Studies Association

The Political Studies Association, in partnership with Elsevier, is holding a Publishing Workshop, free to all members.  This all-day event will provide attendees with advice and insight into navigating the journal publishing process, maximising impact and developments in the publications market. The morning will focus on practical issues of specific interest to early career researchers, while the afternoon will be of interest to all academics, with a focus on journal metrics, Open Access and the future of journal publishing.
Provisional programme: 
10.00am               Welcome and introduction to the PSA’s journals (Helena Djurkovic, PSA, and Ann Corney, Elsevier)
10.10am               Getting Published; an Introduction to the Publishing Process (Ilaria Meliconi, Elsevier)
10.30am               The REF and how it works (Professor Jon Tonge, University of Liverpool)
11:00                     coffee break 
 11.10am               Review of a sample paper (Martin Coward, editor Politics, and Angie Wilson, editor Politics and Religion, and University of Manchester)
 12.30                     Lunch
 13:30                     Promoting your article (Alex Walker, Elsevier) 
2.00pm                 The future of publishing according to a publisher (including OA) (Ilaria Meliconi, Ann Corney, Elsevier)
2.30pm                 Journal metrics (Andrew Plume, Elsevier)
3.00pm                 Concluding remarks

Early Career Competition
Alongside this event, the PSA Early Career Network is hosting a competition for one member of the ECN to have their paper reviewed by two top journal editors at this event. This is a perfect opportunity to reviewer-proof your paper before submitting it to a journal, as well as a great chance to disseminate your research.
The deadline for submissions is Monday 31 October. In order to apply, please send a copy of your paper to <A HREF="mailto:ecn@psa.ac.uk" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ecn@psa.ac.uk</A> and a brief paragraph about your research (200 words max). The paper must be made available to the editors and those attending the conference. Everyone receiving the paper will be informed they cannot share it without the author’s permission.
