Public diners conference: From idea to reality
How can we, together, make the idea of state-supported restaurants a reality?
How can we, together, make the idea of state-supported restaurants a reality?
Join Nourish Scotland for the second public diners conference, where we’ll explore how state-supported restaurants can make delicious low-cost food available to everyone.
This year, we're going global — connecting with public diner pioneers from Poland, The Netherlands and Singapore. One of our keynote speakers is Floris Visser, director of Public Food, who recently launched a successful public diner prototype, Mensa Mensa, in Rotterdam, with a second opening soon in Amsterdam. We’ll also be exploring the next steps for Scotland’s first Public Restaurant test site in Dundee, due to launch next summer.
Whether you’re a food activist, policymaker, practitioner, or citizen, everyone is welcome to help shape this new piece of public infrastructure for food in Scotland.
Accessibility:
Central Hall has two entrances to the main building: the first is the main entrance which is accessed from West Tollcross Street and the other is an accessible entrance on Dunbar Street. You will need to buzz in when entering from Dunbar Street. There is a lift that has access to the main event area with an accessible toilet on each floor.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Josie at josie@nourishscotland.org.uk.
Note: We don’t want cost to be a barrier. If ticket price is an issue, just email josie@nourishscotland.org.uk for a free code – no questions asked.
How to get to the conference:
By train - Central hall is a short walk from Edinburgh Haymarket Station or a 15 minute bus ride from Edinburgh Waverley Station.
By bus - Tollcross is well served by a number of Lothian Bus services. Lothian Buses 10, 11, 15, 15a and 16 can be boarded from Princes Street, city centre. Lothian Buses 23 and 27 can be boarded from Hanover Street, city centre. All with stops within 2 minutes of Central Hall.
