Description:
Pupilage Secretaries/committee members (past and present) and future pupils will explain how the process works across different chambers and give some advice on some of the "do's and dont’s" of the pupillage application/interview process.
How it will work:
The event will be hosted on MS Teams.
Participants will be able to join via a link circulated by email 2 days before the event.
Please send in any questions in advance based around the theme. These will be grouped into our topics and answered by the panel members at the event. There may be an opportunity to type in questions via the chat function at the end.
All panel members will be heard and viewed on screen. Participants should join with audio and video switched off. The chat function can be used for any supplemental questions at the end.
Topics for discussion:
- Brief overview of the stages leading up to Pupillage
- The application process in their respective sets
- What candidates should expect at interview
- Overview of what chambers is looking for - selection process.
- How they aim to balance the above with being fair i.e. E & D considerations?
- What people did best (i.e. those who were ultimately offered pupillage)
- Any disaster stories/huge errors to avoid
- Does the pupillage selection process work/needs improvements/what are chambers doing to help (e.g. 3tg has produced a handbook)
- General advice (i.e. applying year after year, should someone keep going for 5 years; any alternatives if they do not secure pupillage within 5 years)
- Closing remarks - Leandra Smith (BPTC Graduate) regarding going forward with applications next season.
