The Mountain of Art Research (MARs) is based in the Department of Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. A bit like a research centre, except it’s a mountain, MARs supports and promotes the development of innovative art research across a range of  practices including - but not limited to - studio, performance, film and video, curatorial, critical, art-writing, situated, participatory and interdisciplinary practice. Committed to rigorous formal experimentation, maverick conceptual exploration and socially-engaged articulation, MARs emphasises the material ‘stuff’ of art research as much as its speculative possibilities and political imperative.Through MARs we bring together researchers within Art, across disciplines, between institutions and beyond higher education for intentional, concentrated discussion and sharing of research.As both platform and ethos, the aim of MARs is to challenge received ideas and habits; to promote new ways of thinking and being both in and out of this world.MARs is linked to and supported by the MPhil/PhD Programme in the Department of Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

<H4 CLASS="MsoNormal">An intensive Art, Literature, Philosophy Seminar with transdisciplinary scholar-writer Kyoo Lee, Professor of Philosophy and Gender Studies at CUNY.</H4>
 Queer Quests in Questions, Qrious Queeries, are some of the hallmarks of the “philopoetics” of reading/writing/thinking pioneered by Q aka Kyoo Lee, a transdisciplinary philosopher, writer, and critic, who often works in transit. This seminar co-explores such rigorously auto-generative, alter-native models of experimental composition by engaging Q in a Quayside conversation on the Art, Philosophy, Literature of Q-gardening.

<H3 CLASS="MsoNormal">Bio</H3>
Kyoo Lee, a Professor of Philosophy and Gender Studies at CUNY, a transdisciplinary scholar-writer, is the author of Reading Descartes Otherwise: Blind, Mad, Dreamy, and Bad and Writing Entanglish. Her texts have appeared in 3:AM Magazine, Asian American Literary Review, The Brooklyn Rail, Dis, Flash Art, The Volta and the White Review, among others. A member of PEN America Translation Committee and Poetry Translation Center (London), she coedits philoSOPHIA: A Journal of transContinental Feminism (SUNY Press) and is on the boards of Belladonna*, Derrida Today, Litmus Press, Open Humanities Press, Simone de Beauvoir Studies and Women's Studies Quarterly. Her current project includes the Mellon Public Seminar at CUNY Graduate Center, mp3: merging poetry, philosophy, performativity.

Instigated by Professor Michael Newman, and running as part of the Art Research Programme at Goldsmiths College, this series of Art, Literature and Philosophy Seminars involve readings and discussion of texts relevant to current questions in art, literature and philosophy. The seminars are supported by the Mountain of Art Research.
