Exploring both queer artists and their representation within the visual arts, our panel of experts includes museum professional and writer Sacha Coward, art professional supporting the career of emerging artists and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community Dominic Lauren, painter Olivia Mansfield, photographer and video artist Shane Sutherland and illustrator Mazahir Hussain. Exploring both the historical contexts for queer art and envisioning what queer visual culture might look like in the future, the discussion will explore the role that contemporary art has in shaping inclusive narratives, celebrating diversity and giving a vital platform to the LGBTQ+ community. Sacha Coward Sacha Coward is an educator, community curator and consultant working on hidden LGBTQ+ histories and stories in collections. His book ‘Queer as Folklore: A Secret History of the Links Between Queerness, Folklore and Myth’ is to be published next year. In this illuminating work, Sacha delves into the enthralling connection between queerness and mythical creatures, tracing the origins of these stories from Ancient Greece to contemporary pop culture phenomena like "RuPaul's Drag Race." Hekátē Studios has supported over 30 artists and collaborated with world-class arts institutions and galleries such as Tate, Southbank Centre, Victoria &amp; Albert Museum, Serpentine Galleries, The National Gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Somerset House, Thaddaeus Ropac, Pilar Corrias and Chanel (UK); New Museum, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Lehmann Maupin and LGDR (USA); Centre Pompidou (France); Rolex Institute (Switzerland); Venice Biennale (Italy); C/O Berlin (Germany); Helsinki Biennial and Amos Rex (Finland); M+ and Tai Kwun (Hong Kong); Seoul Museum of Art (South Korea); blank projects (South Africa), among others. Hekátē Studios has recently launched the nomadic gallery KIRKI, which takes over domestic spaces and stages annual contemporary art exhibitions across the Greek Cyclades.
