This February BPS celebrates LGBTQIA+ History month with a series of performances, talks and live art events.

Bermondsey Project Space is a not-for-profit creative platform that runs a vibrant programme of performance events including, music, spoken word, performance art, screenings and theatre.

PERFORMANCE WEEK

From the 6th - 11th of February Bermondsey Project Space celebrates performance, with a packed programme of live art, theatre, music and spoken word in aid of the BPS outreach fund - supporting creative projects with local young people.

This LGBTQIA+ History Month, join us for the anniversary edition of Queer Noise, a monthly poetry and performance night platforming London&#x27;s best, spoken-word artists and musicians. A percentage of ticket sales will be donated to The Outside Project supporting homeless LGBTQIA+ People Get ready for a similtaneously silly and sensitive exploration of queer identity, community and friendship. After a year of sold-out events, Queer Noise is back with an all-star line up of incredible performers.This one is not to be missed! Midori Jaeger:Cellist and singer-songwriter Midori makes emotive songs that refuse to fit into a box. She confronts difference, belonging, gender and mixed heritage through a distinct and cello-fuelled sonority that aches with meaning and pulses with groove. Recognised by Moses Sumney and Madison Cunningham for her one-of-a-kind cello and vocal style, Midori’s talent is quickly becoming known worldwide. Her 2021 concept EP 'See Touch Kick and Sweat' gained Jazz FM Late Night Track of the Week, a live performance on BBC Radio London, and a solo set in November 2022 at the Purcell Room as part of the London Jazz Festival. Grace Quigley is a queer writer, actor and co-parent of Queer NoiseShe graduated from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2019 and was an Alan Bates award finalist at the Actors Centre in the same year. In response to covid, she started up a theatre and arts company championing queer voices, facilitating weekly script readings and new writing workshops. Part of the Omnibus ‘Time. London. Identity’ queer theatre makers group she is currently collaborating with her peers on a selection of queer projects furthering their exploration of queer London today.

Nina Mdwaba (aka Boldie) is a South African-born Spoken-word artist, writer, performance artist, and HCPC registered Drama and Movement Therapist / Creative Arts psychotherapist based in London, UK. Since moving to London 2 years ago they have graduated from a Masters program at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama as a Drama and Movement therapist. They are a mixed media interdisciplinary artist who explores identity through spoken word, live performance, and through video installation. They are currently experimenting with music, film, and movement, exploring memory, racial identity, queerness, and healing practices through their art, reflecting their South African ancestry and spirituality. They describe themselves as a poetic-activist, where they reflect on the current state of the world, adopting different lenses and perspectives to create a dialogue. They have performed in over 20 venues across the UK including the GOMA (GLA), Modern institute(GLA) and Dalston Curve Garden(LDN), and a handful of festivals (including Brainchild) since beginning their performance practice in Glasgow in 2017.

SL Grange is a poet, theatre-maker and audio describer. Their award-winning pamphlet Bodies and Other Haunted Houses is out now from Seren Books.

Kia Matanky-Becker is a Queer Poet, Performance artist, sculptor and co-parent of Queer Noise. Kia's Lyrical poetry is an unapologetic exploration of queer relationships, friendship and community. They are particularly interested in queer coming of age narratives and their beautifully messy complexities. An over-sharer and attention seeker, get ready for tales of lesbian drama, late nights and the people they fell in love with on the bus this morning. kia just wants you to laugh at them, that's it really. Kia has performed at poetry nights across the country, their performance films are archived internationally, and they were awarded the Poetry Society collaboration prize 2021.

Norma Night (previously under the name Kelsey Ellison) is an Queer and disabled performer who brings the show wherever she goes. She has recently debuted her music side again after a long break and is ready to perform her new original songs and covers.

Kal is a Moroccan singer-songwriter born in Italy and currently enrolled at ICMP studying songwriting. Through her neo-soul/RnB style, she intends to heal and create a warm and welcoming environment for her listener. Perfect if you want to have a good time or share an intimate moment with your loved one. She creates a unique brand of conscious music that inspires and uplifts.

Karima Francis is a critically acclaimed musician and songwriter from Blackpool, renowned for her innate ability to blend haunting melodies with honest lyrics and alluring ambiance. With an ear for music evident from an early age, Karima went on to release her debut album ‘The Author’ in 2009 to widespread critical acclaim. Her consequent album’s ‘The Remedy’ (2012) and ‘Black’ (2016) witnessed further acknowledgment of her artistic abilities and saw her truly begin to spread her wings. Her journey to date has found her playing on Later... With Jools Holland, supporting the likes of Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse and The Stereophonics, as well as working with renowned producer Flood (Nine Inch Nails, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode).Entering a transfixing new chapter in her career, Francis found a new rhythm to recording-life on the West Coast of the USA last year. Unfurling a string of earnest and deeply affecting new singles inspired-by and recorded during her time there, new single “Carelessness Causes Fire” continues this new creative streak and directly follows on from previous singles “Orange Rose” “Shelf Life” (released earlier in 2021), plus last year’s “Say”.Wrapping up 2022 with one of her most confessional and profound offerings to date, expect further new material
