Celebrate Pride Month at the University of Exeter with talks from the winners of PRISM Exeter's Queer Science Competition (+ special guests)

<a href="https://prismexeter.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">PRISM Exeter</a> and the University of Exeter welcome you to join them for their Pride Month event celebrating LGBTQ+ contributions to Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM).Our three <a href="https://prismexeter.com/qsc" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Queer Science Competition</a> winners will each give a short talk about the LGBTQIA+ STEMM professional they chose to nominate. Schedule (please note that exact times and the running order may vary):<ul><li>5:30pm: welcome from the PRISM Exeter team</li><li>5:45pm: talk from competition runner up, including prize giving</li><li>6:00pm: talk from competition runner up, including prize giving</li><li>6:15pm: break (food and soft drinks provided)</li><li>6:45pm: talk from competition winner, including prize giving</li><li>7:00pm: talk from special guest + audience questions</li><li>7:30pm: event ends</li></ul>If you have questions about the event, please contact Claire at prismexeter@gmail.com<h3></h3><h3>About the Queer Science Competition</h3>You may have heard about the achievements and experiences of gay mathematician and celebrated WWII code breaker Alan Turing but most people would find it difficult to name other Lesbian, Gay, Bi/Pan, Trans, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians and medics.With this in mind, PRISM Exeter challenged students aged 11+ studying at schools, colleges and universities across the greater Exeter area to discover lesser-known LGBTQ+ people from STEMM and enter their <a href="https://prismexeter.com/qsc" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Queer Science Competition</a> to champion those whose lives and/or work they found inspiring. <h3>Introducing special guest speaker, Sarah Cosgriff</h3>

Sarah Cosgriff is a science communicator with a biology background. She has a BSc in Biological Sciences and a MSc in Systems Biology from the University of Warwick. She started her career in cell biology research and in 2012, she moved into science communication.Sarah's science communication work focuses on diversity and inclusion in STEM. She works for the Association for Science Education where she helps schools become more inclusive places for students. She also works for Schools OUT UK, a LGBT+ education charity who founded LGBT+ History Month in the UK, and as part of this role she develops resources for educators to help highlight LGBT+ people in school lessons.

---PRISM Exeter's Queer Science Competition was organised in association with Intercom Trust, University of Exeter, Exeter College, Exeter Science Centre, Devon Schools Leadership Services, and Exeter Pride. It is part funded through the Society for Experimental Biology's Diversity Grant scheme.
