London Lit Lab was created in 2015 by authors Lily Dunn and Zoe Gilbert, offering friendly courses where writers teach writers. Lily and Zoe teach courses for beginner and advanced writers, as well as courses based on their specialisms. As LGBTQIA+ writers, what does it mean to tell our queer stories and how do we go about it?

The aim of this session is for us to consider, as LGBTQIA+ writers, what it means to tell our queer stories and how we might go about it. Whether you’re new to writing or a seasoned wordsmith, this workshop is designed to generate ideas and stories through a combination of writing exercises and readings/discussion of other queer narratives, by authors such as Maggie Nelson and Neil Bartlett.This session will be led by Jonathan Kemp. Jonathan is the award-winning author of both fiction and non-fiction books, and has been teaching for twenty years. Birkbeck School of Arts, 43 Gordon Square, London, WC1H 0PD – a beautiful, spacious venue in Bloomsbury which was once the home of Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell.Places are limited to 15.Jonathan Kemp’s debut novel London Triptych (Myriad, 2010) was acclaimed by The Guardian as an “ambitious, fast-moving, and sharply written work” and by Time Out as “a thoroughly absorbing and pacy read.” It was shortlisted for the inaugural Green Carnation Prize and won the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award in 2011. A story collection, Twentysix was published by Myriad in November 2011, followed by a second novel, Ghosting, in March 2015. His first book of non-fiction, The Penetrated Male, was published by Punctum Books in 2012, with a second, Homotopia? Gay Identity, Sameness &amp; the Politics of Desire in 2016. He has been teaching creative writing for twenty years and is currently at Middlesex University.
