About this event

  • 2 hours

In partnership with Robertson, Curtins and Leeds College of Building, plus guest speakers from Airedale General Hospital, MTC and Hive Projects, this hands-on workshop will enable you to understand more about RAAC’s properties, witness live RAAC testing of strength and stiffness, and hear from leading experts on how we can deal with the presence of RAAC pragmatically.

The session will be an opportunity to understand how the material performs and put questions towards those involved in RAAC mitigation, including estate leads, contractors, engineers, project managers and research teams.

Curtins have acted as one of the UK’s leading engineers on RAAC, carrying out surveys in over 100 schools in the past 6 months, as well as universities, hospitals and other public and private sector buildings. Their expertise has contributed to IStructE guidance, as well as collaborative research with the BRE, Loughborough University and Aintree and Airedale Hospitals.

Roberston has responded to the RAAC challenge, working across healthcare, education, blue light and many other sectors in the North of England and Scotland. Whether it's complete removal or reinforcement, the team’s expertise is critical in finding the best solutions for keeping safety paramount, minimising disruption and ensuring buildings can still run services. In the example of hospitals, this can literally be making sure life-saving operations are still able to take place.

Join us in the central atrium at the Leeds College of Building’s South Bank Campus for introductory presentations, before breaking out into the College’s workshop spaces for live RAAC testing.

As part of the official UKREiiF Fringe programme, this event will include the opportunity to network with conference delegates and industry professionals.
