About this event

  • 4 hours

A workshop to learn various sewing and craft techniques to reuse and recycle unwanted textile, which would otherwise be sent overseas, or to land fill. Participants will take part in a discussion about the history, environmental impact and facts about fashion and the textile industry. They will then create a new item using unwanted textile, which they have supplied, to take away with them.

Participants will be shown how to use techniques to reuse textile and start their own projects, given full support. A short refreshment break will take place at around half time. After a review of their experience, they will take their work away with them.

Severn Gorge Countryside Trust

This workshop is being hosted by the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, a local charity.

The Trust’s aim is to promote, protect and conserve the living landscape of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, which has a diverse range of habitats, including wildflower meadows, woodlands and heathlands. But that’s not all! We maintain over 20 kilometres of footpaths, conserve and protect 60 historic structures, run exciting Outdoor Learning and Volunteering Programmes to encourage local people and visitors to engage with the natural environment in a variety of ways.

All proceeds from this workshop will support the work of the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.

Engaging with nature has been well demonstrated to have positive effects on both mental and physical wellbeing. We hope that this in turn promotes the desire to protect and preserve the natural environment, for present and future generations.
