About this event

Walk Leader: Gordon Guest, Independent Mobility Scooter Access Consultant and Member of Disabled Ramblers.

Terrain: Moderate for walkers, challenging by mobility scooter over some bumpy paths. The walk is very suitable for those with for 4mph and 8mph mobility scooters. The path is firm and wide, but has many bumps with a steep but passable hill (A 4mph scooter did this with ease).

The event will start from the Quarry car park in Ramscombe Forest (Forest Enterprise) in the Quantock Hills. The Douglas firs in Quantock Combe are some of the tallest trees in England, the tallest is just over 50 metres, higher than 11 double decker buses! Red and Roe deer can sometimes be spotted in the woods and you may hear the ‘kronk’ of ravens or spot a sparrowhawk overhead.

Stowey Walking, the Walkers are Welcome steering group for the villages of Nether Stowey and Over Stowey will be holding a walking festival in the beautiful Quantock Hills, England’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) showcasing the unique landscape of the hills and nearby coast.Walkers will be able to choose from a variety of guided walks each day of varying lengths, so there will be something to suit everyone, from keen hikers and ramblers to families looking for a more leisurely stroll in the countryside. Numbers for the walks need to be limited so booking is essential. Stowey Walking is a community run non-profit making enterprise promoting walking in the Quantock Hills.

Tickets - Whilst tickets are required for this event to monitor numbers, there is no charge. Please consider making a donation to the work of the Disabled Ramblers, a small charity working across England and Wales to help make the countryside more accessible to people with limited mobility – which benefits everyone. The charity also campaigns to raise awareness of the needs of people with limited mobility and organises a national programme of rambles for people who use mobility scooters.

Is there a minimum age requirement to enter the event? - Children under 16 years should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Can I bring my dog? - Dogs are permitted on all walks but must be kept on a lead to protect livestock and ground nesting birds. Owners must accept full responsibility for their dogs behaviour and walk leaders have the discretion to refuse to allow any dog from taking part. Please contact us if you wish to bring your dog.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? - Due to the specialised nature of this event participants will need their own transport to and from the venue.
