RAS Library Visit

The Flamsteed is an amateur astronomy society at theRoyal ObservatoryandNational Maritime Museumin Greenwich, London SE10. It has around 400 members who represent the full range of interests and experience in astronomy. Many are beginners. It is named after the first Astronomer Royal, John Flamsteed. The Society was founded in 1999, and is part of the membership organisation ofRoyal Museums Greenwich. Our lecture meetings are held on the first Monday of each month between September and May in thelecture theatreof the National Maritime Museum, or in thePeter Harrison Planetariumat the Royal Observatory Greenwich (ROG).  The Society regularly holds observing evenings using members’ own telescopes.  In addition the Society stages viewing sessions with the ROG’sGreat Equatorial refractor, the largest of its kind in the UK, and seventh largest in the world. We are members ofThe Federation of Astronomical Societies.

We have arranged a visit to the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) Library on Thursday 27th September, starting at 2pm. The visit will last between 1 to 2 hours. 
The Royal Astronomical Society has a world-class collection in astronomy and geophysics that is far more comprehensive than the libraries of most universities and research institutions.
During our visit, Dr Sian Prosser, will give us an introductory talk and will set out some rare treasures including a few Maunder materials in the collection. She will be able to discuss and answer our questions.
The visit is free but places are limited. We will start a waiting list when all places are full.
We will meet at the RAS premises in Burlington House on Piccadilly. There is no parking and the best way to get there is by tube to Piccadilly Circus or Green Park. For more information please see:
