This Event has been created In collaboration with RC2014 and Peter Onion, hosted at the TNMOC. Witness the versatility of the RC2014 and similar Z80 kits: A deep dive into community-driven 8-bit projects.

This event provides a unique opportunity to explore the practical implementations and diverse applications of the RC2014 modular Z80 computer kit, as demonstrated by its builders and enthusiasts. It's designed for engineers, hobbyists, and anyone curious about how these modern retro systems are being utilised today.

Tickets include full access to explore the musuem between 10:30-16:30

About the RC2014: The RC2014 is a modern, modular Z80-based 8-bit computer kit. It draws inspiration from foundational late 70s/early 80s home-built systems like the ZX81, UK101, S100, Superboard II, and Apple I. Its nominal specifications include 8K ROM, 32K RAM, a 7.3728MHz clock speed, and 115,200 baud serial communication. It's renowned for its simplicity and expandability.

What You'll Experience During This Showcase:

Hardware in Action: See working RC2014 systems, including standard configurations and custom expansions. Discuss the modular design and the role of key components (CPU, RAM, ROM, I/O) in various setups.

Software Demonstrations:

Microsoft BASIC Applications: Observe live demonstrations of programs written in Microsoft BASIC, showcasing the capabilities and limitations of the language on this platform.

Z80 Machine Code Implementations: Witness direct machine code running on the Z80 microprocessor, illustrating low-level control, optimized routines, and hardware interfacing.

Diverse Applications: Explore a range of projects and applications developed by the RC2014 community. From custom interfaces and peripheral control to unique software utilities and hobbyist creations, understand the real-world uses and creative potential of this 8-bit platform.

Community Engagement: Engage directly with RC2014 builders and developers. Discuss design choices, problem-solving approaches, and future possibilities within the RC2014 ecosystem.

Lightning Talks: Opportunities for attendees to give 15-minute talks about their RC2014 projects, insights, or related topics.

Trading Opportunities: Trading Opportunities: Makers of kits for the RC2014, RCBus and similar platforms will have kits and finished products available to see and buy.

Who Should Attend? This showcase is ideal for individuals with an interest in computer architecture, retro hardware, embedded systems, low-level programming, electronics, or those seeking inspiration for their own computing projects.

All levels of interest are welcome. Individuals interested in sharing their RC2014 work or trading retro items are especially encouraged!
