The Traveller Movement, with support from the Mayor of London and The Youth Future’s Foundation, are proud to present the next event in our Connected Communities series, this time focusing on Greater London. Bringing together Businesses, Local Authorities, Youth services, Gypsy Roma and Traveller organisations, and young people, the event will help shape appropriate and meaningful pathways into employment, education and training for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller youth across the Greater London Area.

Delivered as part of our Reaching Out program, this event is the second in a series of six ‘Connected Communities’ events across the UK. The event will be an opportunity for those working with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller young people, and the young people themselves, to share their experiences and explore how the recommendations from our Roads To Success report (hyperlinked) can be best delivered. Drawing on the findings of a team of peer researchers, the report examines the education, training and employment needs of young Gypsy, Roma and Travellers in the UK, providing guidance on how these needs can be better met. One of the report’s recommendations, the provision of Careers guidance in primary schools, has now been adopted by Government. We’re excited to hear attendee’s thoughts and expertise on how further progress can be made.

You’ll have the opportunity to hear from prominent members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities such as Joe Clement (poet and academic), David Beaney (Kent County Councillor) as well as contributions from the London Transport Museum. This will also be a chance for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller young people to have their say, guiding discussions around how organisations, from employers to Local authorities, can better meet their needs.

The event will be from 09:30 – 18:00, with a formal programme from 10:00-16:00 of inspirational speakers, political and lived experience input on how the major parties are supporting the representation of young people generally and Gypsy, Traveller and Roma young people specifically and showcasing best practice from across the UK.

Tickets are free and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Please note: due to security procedures at London City Hall, all guests are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early to ensure a prompt start.
