This event is part ofFEELING MACHINES, a programme of digital arts from Bristol (UK) exploring how digital technologies intertwine with the most intimate aspects of our lives. Join us at a workshop, come see some artworks, or gather somewhere in-between from October 2022 and April 2023.

A workshop led by Berlin based MELT exploring how personal stories and collections can become data (or not!).

💌 We invite you to join <a href="http://meltionary.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">MELT (Ren Loren Britton &amp; Isabel Paehr)</a> for a playful workshop about data set creation. The workshop will take place online or in-person on Sunday 30 October, 2-5pm.What does a data set mean to you? What and whom is included and excluded in any data set and why? Who do these boundaries serve, and how could it be different? We will explore how we can shift practices of data collection towards our beloved disabled and trans*feminist presents. Asking how we can make data something that cares for us (particularly as trans* and disabled people) in the past, present and future? Let's start with the materials in our everyday lives… Before you come to the workshop we invite you to try and collect a set of objects, materials or feelings for the duration of one week. It could be a selection of stones from walks you have taken, one bottle previously containing some medicine that is now inside you - ingested intravenously! It could be a list of every machine you touched in the last week, it could be all the contents of all the envelopes that have been sent to your house, it could be that feeling you felt every time you arrived back home, it could be a collection of germinating plants you are sprouting, all the nail polish that you wore, an image of every outfit you wore, a collection of poems you read, it could be.... it could be... bring a set, something that tells a story about your daily life.Together we will transform these collections to shape-shift the boundaries of data. 🌸 Workshop InformationThis workshop is a slow-burner. We’ll start with our first meeting on the afternoon of 30 October 2022, and then invite you to join us as we ‘slow-burn’ until the weekend of 1 April 2023. We will set up some time in between to shape-shift our sets into a collectively compiled installation that will be displayed as part of Control Shift ~ Feeling Machines, Bristol UK. Access info for joining in-person: the workshop will take place at <a href="https://kwmc.org.uk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">KWMC</a> in south Bristol. There are a regular buses (90 and 91) and also free parking. There is step-free access to the workshop space, and accessible toilets. 🦑 About MELT MELT (Ren Loren Britton &amp; Isabel Paehr) study and experiment with shape-shifting processes as they meet technologies, sensory media and pedagogies in a warming world. Meltionary (derived from "dictionary"), is a growing collection of arts-design-research engagements that cooks up questions around material transformations alongside impulses from trans* feminism and Disability Justice. Melting as a kaleidoscope like phenomena touches upon multiple topics at once: climate change, the potential for political reformulations, change over time and material transformation.
