Overview

A curated screening of five short films celebrating authentic Northern storytelling. Hosted as part of the Wigan Arts Festival.

Experience the raw, unfiltered voice of the region with Real:North, a curated screening of five short films celebrating authentic Northern storytelling. Hosted as part of the Wigan Arts Festival, this showcase highlights powerful narratives centered on working-class lives, women’s voices, and the nuances of mental health.

Supported by Doc North, a Wigan based CIC dedicated to championing working-class filmmakers, these films strip away the stereotypes to reveal the grit and beauty of the North.

All proceeds go directly back into Doc North CIC, a Wigan based organisation championing working class filmmakers and helping them break into the documentary world.

A couple of the films explore mental health, and one includes discussion of suicide. It’s not a heavy watch overall – in fact, the film in question is mostly about LEGO with a few darker moments. Films are suitable for ages 16+.
