RebLaw 2017

RebLaw UK is the sister conference to Yale Law School’s RebLaw, the largest student-run public interest law conference in the US. The conference, grounded in the spirit of Gerald Lopez’s ‘Rebellious Lawyering’, seeks to build a community of law students, practitioners, and activists striving to work in the service of social change movements and to challenge hierarchies of race, wealth, gender, and expertise within legal practice and education.The University of Law (ULaw) has worked with Yale Law School to set up a UK-based conference that shares the same values.

RebLaw UK

RebLaw UK is an entirely student-run conference which brings together students, lawyers and activists determined to use the law for the benefit of marginalised communities and individuals. Running for its second year the Conference will again be taking place at the University of Law’s Moorgate Campus, on Saturday, 11th November 2017.
This year, the Conference will kick off with a keynote speech by Jo Hickman, Director of the Public Law Project. The day then revolves around three breakout sessions, one after the other, consisting of four panels each, which will run simultaneously.
Confirmed speakers this year include lawyers and activists from Refugees at Home, Asylum Aid, Liberty, Garden Court Chambers, Leigh Day, ATLEU, Justice Gap, Doughty Street Chambers, Matrix Chambers, Islington Law Centre, and many more. 
The day will draw to a close with drinks, nibbles and bustling chat to give you a chance to mingle after what is sure to be an intense, thought-provoking day.

First breakout session (11.30am-12.45pm)

Lunchtime with exhibitors' area (1pm-2.15pm) 
Second breakout session (2.15pm-3.45pm)

2. Using human rights to eliminate poverty in Foodbank Britain
3. Towards transgender legal equality 
4. Strategies for effective prisoner re-entry 
Third breakout session (4pm-5.30pm)
1. Housing rights after Grenfell
2. Racial profiling and police accountability 
3. Modern slavery and the supply chain
4. Campaigning toolkit
Social 5.30pm - 8.00pm
