Join Creative Fuse for an exciting Hack Day to investigate, experiment with, and modify a new artwork by Cate Wilkinson and Colin Rennie. The artwork, Colour Field, is a large interactive LED wall, which will be on display at Sunderland Fab Lab especially for this event (previously displayed at the National Glass Centre).

Meet the artists, access the code, and experiment with the hardware in a friendly and supportive environment. We welcome anyone with an interest in creative and/or digital making, with all levels of experience and skills.

The daytime activity will be followed by an evening showcase and discussion event, inspired by Helix Arts Digital Drop-In Events. This informal event is a great chance to share insights, ideas, and techniques, as well as hear from our panel of Digital Makers.

The Day

9.00-12.00 Digital Craft Making

Artists Colin and Cate will introduce, explain, and demonstrate the range of materials, processes and techniques used to make Colour Field and associated artworkss. This digital craft making masterclass is designed to help realise the potential for innovation blending technology and glass.

12.00-13.30 Lunch and Team Creation

Lunch will be provided free of charge as part of this event. If you have any dietary requirements, please make sure you let use know when you register.

13.30-18.00 ReCoding the Wall - Creative Hack

Your chance to experiment with possibility. The wall is constructed from 960 optical glass blocks illuminated by an LED matrix that interprets data from a Kinect Sensor. The wall is meant to create a ghost of the person viewed from one side of the wall. The afternoon session will give you time to hack the code and experiement with the wall. The code is available via Github - many thanks to Ross Williams for sharing his work with us for this project.

18.00-19.00 Pizza and Beer

19.00-20.00 Presentations from ReCoding the Wall (Evening Event)

Share your ideas and see how others have reimagined the artwork during the Creative Hack. This informal event will be opened to a wider audience for drinks, showcase and discussion.

20.00-21.00 Digital Making Panel (Evening Event)

Your chance to hear from some great digital makers in the region. Ask your questions, get great advice, and be inspired for your future making projects. Opened to a wider audience.
