Reconfiguring Place: Intergenerational Cities

The Glass-House Community Led Design is a national charity dedicated to connecting people with the design of their places, and connecting design with people. For over two decades, we have supported communities, organisations and networks to work collaboratively to shape buildings, spaces, homes and neighbourhoods.The Glass-House sees design not only as a tool for creating great places, but also as a way to connect people and empower them with enhanced confidence, skills and a greater sense of agency. We provide hands-on support and training, share knowledge and learning, and inspire new thinking and debate through action research, events and resources.

How can we design and develop places where people of different ages can connect and help each other?

Civic House

What can bringing different generations together through place do to help improve our quality of life and create new opportunities for all of us? Intergenerational Cities is the first event in Reconfiguring Place, the 2019/20 Glass-House WE design event series. We’ll be exploring the prominent topics that are influencing the design of places today, with a focus on improving design quality and creating more equitable places where people and communities thrive. Join us for an evening of hands-on collaborative design activities and discussion, and bring your own experience, skills and creativity to the conversation. Intergenerational Cities is being delivered in partnership with Civic House. This event is free, but places are limited. Please register to secure your place. If you need assistance getting to the venue, please email info@theglasshouse.org.uk as we are able to provide support under certain circumstances. The room at <a href="https://civic-house.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Civic House</a> where the event is taking place is a fully accessible venue.Please note, during the event we will be recording audio, taking photographs and tweeting to help us share the evening’s activities and our learning with others. You will be asked to consent to this when filling in the registration form. The event is almost full. If you would like to attend, please join the waiting list and we will make an effort to accommodate as many people as possible. If you can no longer attend, please let us know and allow someone from the waiting list can take your place.____About the Reconfiguring Place seriesUsing the themes of intergenerational cities, housing, high streets and town centres, we'll be exploring ways to enable citizens as agents of change. Our events are spaces for testing collaborative models for placemaking which combine social, cultural and economic activity, as part of a transformation process to support long-term sustainability. The series will explore how our collective assets can be mobilised to support local networks and initiatives, as well as building agency and unleashing the potential of people and places.We'll draw together the learning, ideas and recommendations from the Reconfiguring Place series, as well as the physical outputs of our collaborative sessions, at an interactive exhibition and debate in spring 2020.To find out more about our past and present event series, please visit: www.theglasshouse.org.uk/events
