Join us for a day of talks, stories and discussion as part of Refugee Week, inspired by this year's theme - "We Cannot Walk Alone".
About this event
Join us for talks, stories and discussion in partnership with The Liliesleaf Trust UK and the Centre of Memory and Learning at Penton Street. We will be exploring this years theme "We Cannot Walk Alone" and reflecting on the experience of the refugees who setting in Islington during apartheid in South African as well as other stories of refuge.
Speakers:
Nadia Joseph will talk her memories of life as the daughter of South African political exiles based in London. Her family were active members of the African National Congress liberation movement and were familiar with its Islington headquarters, now known as the Centre of Memory and Learning at Penton Street.
Nicole-Rachelle Moore will be talking about some of her freelance work which includes New Beacon Books, the George Padmore Institute and Education Through Culture.
Exhibition:
We will also be displaying part of the 2018 exhibition "Fighting Apartheid in Islington" in the Clock Tower Centre.

Important Information:
Talks and discussions will start at 11.15 am and then at 1pm, with refreshments provided in between. We are hoping for good weather, but if we need to move things indoors, Covid restrictions will apply. We there fore recommend reserving a seat if the sessions are moved indoors. The Cally Clock Tower Centre will be open from 11am to 2pm.
For the safety of all, social distancing rules will apply during your visit:
Please try to keep 2 metres from others outside of your group at all times.
You must only attend in a group if all members of your group are part of the same household or support bubble.
Please do not attend if you have any Covid symptoms or if you have had a positive Covid test in the last 14 days.
