This month’s fundraiser is for REFUGEE COMMUNITY KITCHEN, founded in 2015 with the purpose of serving nutritious food without judgement to those fleeing war, poverty, persecution and climate change and living in Northern France and the UK. They have chapters in cities around the UK including Edinburgh.In their own words - “We are volunteers. we chop. We stir. we serve. We believe food is a human right. Everyone deserves food that we’d be happy to eat at our own tables.”Reggae Got SoulFounded in 2010, Reggae Got Soul have been playing regular nights in and around Leith, commencing with a monthly residency down at the Cruz Ship on the Shore where we rocked the old boat on its moorings until 2015. Those who crossed the gangway will remember the great times we had there.Following a spell at Safari Lounge in Abbeyhill, RGS moved back down to the heart of the Republic, kicking things off with a couple of highly successful fundraisers for Save Leith Walk campaign in 2018. From that time until Covid cast its shadow we dispensed regular monthly doses of musical love at the musical Mecca which is the Leith Depot.Re-invigorated and renewed, we return now with a commitment to use all of our gigs for fundraising purposes. Musical policy remains the same, High-Grade Reggae incorporating Roots, Rocksteady, Lovers Rock and One-Drop from Jeremiyah, while this month’s special guest DJ George Reid will be digging deep to take you Soul Steppin’ through the decades.
