Regulation as Resistance:

Practical Nervous System Tools for Sustainable Social Justice Work

Calling all helpers and purpose-led changemakers

Welcome to a somatic sanctuary that honours both your deep commitment to justice and your human need for regulation and rest.

A 90-minute workshop exploring how nervous system awareness becomes our foundation for sustainable social change.

Hosted by: Eloise Reed - Somatic coach and facilitator and independent social work consultant

Welcome into a space of recognition, a place to witness how your body holds both the weight of the world and the wisdom to transform it, individually and collectively.

In the face of global crises and systemic oppression, nervous system regulation becomes more than self-care—it becomes resistance. This immersive experience explores how regulating your nervous system transforms reactive responses into resourced action, empowering you to create change without burning out.

Through gentle somatic practices, breath awareness, and collective inquiry, we consider:

  • How do survival patterns shape my capacity for impact?
  • What stories live in my body about change, urgency, and rest?
  • How can regulation become a radical act of resistance?
  • What does it mean to be a nervous system resource for collective healing?

Because when we tend to our inner systems with care, our outward actions become more potent, sustainable, and life-affirming.

Our regulation becomes an act of rebellion. Our presence becomes our greatest offering. Our capacity for connection becomes our strongest ally.

This is for you if:

  • You chose your profession to make a difference. Whether you're a healthcare worker, coach, social worker, educator, therapist, or community organiser, your work is service and justice.
  • You've felt the weight of these times in your body. The grief, rage, or despair—and you want simple tools to stay present without collapsing.
  • You're running on empty. Your body is saying no while the urgency to create change keeps pushing you forward. You're exhausted, drained, caught between impact and depletion.
  • You know the reality of working within limiting systems—the tension of endless deadlines, exhaustion that rest doesn't touch, overwhelm when client needs feel infinite.
  • You long to feel held, supported, and powerful as you show up for change.

About your facilitator

Eloise is a somatic coach and trauma-informed facilitator with nearly 30 years of experience in social justice work. After experiencing burnout and long-COVID, she discovered the importance of nervous system regulation and body-based healing practices.

Her personal journey from exhaustion to sustainable engagement taught her how to listen to her body's signals and create healthier life and work rhythms. She now uses this experience to support other changemakers, leaders, and organisations in strengthening their capacity for long-term social justice work.

Eloise combines somatic practices with anti-oppression frameworks, trauma-informed approaches, polyvagal theory, and internal family systems. Her work helps individuals and groups develop the nervous system tools they need to stay engaged in their important work without burning out.

Central to her approach is the understanding that healing happens in relationship and community. She creates spaces where people can be witnessed in their experiences, knowing that being seen and held by others is essential for both personal regulation and collective strength.

She believes that taking care of ourselves and regulating our nervous systems isn't just self-care—it's essential for creating sustainable social change. And that we heal together, not in isolation.

Frequently asked questions

What is somatic practice?

Somatic practices are simple, body-based techniques that help you tune into your nervous system and regulate stress responses. Think gentle breathing exercises, noticing physical sensations, or brief moments of mindful awareness. No previous experience needed - everyone welcome.

Is this a movement session?

No, although you may choose to move your body in any way that feels right for you in the moment, this is not an event where movement will be 'taught' or guided. Gentle, embodied practices will be offered like breath awareness and simple body awareness techniques.

Will we be lying down?

No, all practices are designed to be done while seated or standing. We'll be seated in chairs, but people are very welcome to stand up and move whenever they want.

What shall I bring?

You may want to bring some water and a journal and pen to write your reflections down.
