Reimagining the River

Reimagining the River

St John’s Church, WaterlooLondon, England
Thursday, May 21  •  9 AM - 12:30 PM
Overview

Join us in Reimagining the River Thames on the 21st May.

The River Thames is an iconic element of London, impacting every Londoner in different ways. As the climate pressures keep rising, there is an urgent need to protect our river to ensure that it can keep providing us with a place to work, live, connect with nature and celebrate history.

Alongside South Bank and Waterloo Sustains Us, Thames Estuary Partnership and the Environment Agency we are hosting a free half-day event bringing together local residents, landowners, stakeholders and community to think about the future of the Thames, particularly in light of the need to raise flood defences throughout the Thames Estuary in response to rising sea levels. This could require some stretches of our river wall to be raised by about half a meter by 2050, which may impact our connection to the river as well as future developments on the riverside.

Joined by experts from the Environment Agency, Thames Estuary Partnership, Southwark Council and Lambeth Council, we will be turning our minds to how we transform this infrastructure challenge into an opportunity to think creatively about the future of our river.

We want to hear your priorities and values in interacting with the river to help shape a vision for its future. This will inform current and upcoming strategic planning by the Thames Estuary Partnership, Southwark Council and Lambeth Council.

During the morning you'll have the chance to learn about our local Thames history, hear about resilience work already underway, and see international examples of regenerated riversides to explore what might be possible. You will also have a chance to participate in our workshops and ensure your voice is heard in shaping the future of the Thames riverside.

Please come along if you live or work along the southern bank of the Thames from Blackfriars Bridge to Lambeth Bridge or neighbouring areas.

Capacity is limited so register to reserve your spot!

This event is run as part of the Rivers of Life festival. Find out more about on www.riversoflife.london
