The Glass-House Community Led Design is a national charity dedicated to connecting people with the design of their places, and connecting design with people. For over two decades, we have supported communities, organisations and networks to work collaboratively to shape buildings, spaces, homes and neighbourhoods.The Glass-House sees design not only as a tool for creating great places, but also as a way to connect people and empower them with enhanced confidence, skills and a greater sense of agency. We provide hands-on support and training, share knowledge and learning, and inspire new thinking and debate through action research, events and resources.

REvalue is part of the 2022/23 Glass-House WEdesign event series, Relearning Place, in collaboration with Newcastle University.

Relearning Place: WEdesign 2022/23

Change is a dynamic constant in our lives. Through the Relearning Place event series, we will explore the concept of relearning and how this approach might encourage people to think differently and to affect culture, policy and practice. Join us!

Focusing on a neglected area in Newcastle’s city centre as a provocation, this in-person event will explore the value we attribute to our places (be it financial, cultural, historical, environmental), and how this affects our relationship with the built and natural world around us.At this interactive event, co-delivered with students from <a href="https://www.ncl.ac.uk/apl/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Newcastle University School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape</a>, we will use creative co-design activities to consider how we reevaluate and redefine neglected places, with the communities who live, work and play in them.This Glass-House WEdesign event will be an active space where students, practitioners, policy-makers and citizens work together with The Glass-House, and with students and tutors from Newcastle University, to explore and co-design creative methods of engagement and collaborative placemaking that can help us revalue our places.This is a free event, but places are limited.This event will take place in person at Newcastle University, with more detailed venue information available in the new year.WEdesign is kindly supported by the <a href="https://www.ovearupfoundation.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ove Arup Foundation</a>.<h3>About the series</h3>Change is a dynamic constant in our lives and through the Relearning Place event series we will explore the concept of relearning and how this approach might encourage people to think differently and to affect culture, policy and practice in design and placemaking. Through a series of online and in-person events, Relearning Place explores the role of communities in design and placemaking and how the recent changes in political, economic, socio-cultural and environmental influences are altering how we respond, relate to and adapt the places where we live, work and play.So how do we reconsider what we think we know about place and placemaking as we adapt to external factors of change?What do we have to unlearn to enable us to relearn? Is relearning a continual process for places?Relearning Place is The Glass-House 2022/23 WEdesign series which combines free, interactive events and co-design activities taking place in person in Glasgow, Sheffield, London, Newcastle, with a range of online events and think pieces.
