About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join art historian Dr Elizabeth J. Petcu (University of Edinburgh) and historian of science Dr Richard Oosterhoff (University of Edinburgh) for an interactive presentation of Dr Petcu's new book, The Architectural Image and Early Modern Science: Wendel Dietterlin and the Rise of Empirical Investigation (Cambridge University Press, 2024). We will use the book to explore the many reciprocal relationships between architecture and science during the Renaissance in Europe (c. 1400-1600), delving into the visual and technical innovations that linked architectural and scientific culture in this era. This hybrid, in-person and online event offers an unusual opportunity to explore long-forgotten exchanges between art, science, and architecture. Petcu's book was funded in part by the Graham Foundation.
