RERA ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND GENERAL MEETING
“Strengthening Regional Cooperation to Secure Sustainable Energy Supply"
The global energy landscape is undergoing a profound transformation driven by the imperative to ensure energy security, address climate change, and meet growing demand for affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. In the Southern African region, the challenges of energy access, limited infrastructure, uneven resource distribution, and climate-related risks continue to impede sustainable development.
Recognizing that no single country can address these challenges alone, regional cooperation has become not only desirable but essential. Strengthened regional energy integration offers a pathway to optimize resource use, promote energy trade, reduce costs, and improve energy reliability across borders.
As the Regional Energy Regulators Association of Southern Africa (RERA) continues to play its part in this agenda, it marks 20 years since the operationalization of its Secretariat - a significant milestone that reflects two decades of regional dialogue, regulatory harmonization, capacity development, and collective action. This anniversary offers an important moment to reflect on achievements, consolidate lessons learned, and chart a more ambitious path for the future of regional energy cooperation.
RERA plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among national energy regulatory bodies. In this context, the 2026 RERA Conference will be held under the theme:
"Strengthening Regional Cooperation to Secure Sustainable Energy Supply"
It will bring together key stakeholders to explore pathways for deeper collaboration, harmonization of regulatory frameworks, and joint infrastructure development.
