Resilience, Relationship & Return - the workshop

The Bethlem Gallery, established 1997, is situated on the grounds of The Bethlem Royal Hospital.Managed by a small, artist-led team, the gallery provides a professional space for high-quality artwork and fosters a supportive artist-focused environment.Exhibitions and events are programmed throughout the year presenting a wide range of mediums and contemporary practice. The gallery is an ideal platform for experimentation, collaboration and skills exchange. Collectively we strive to develop the careers, experience and expertise of the gallery artists by creating opportunities for professional development. Our successful artist-in-residence projects also work with patients and staff on site to improve people’s experience of the hospital environment.The Bethlem Gallery programme includes collaborations withBethlem Museum of the Mind, artists-in-residence, interdisciplinary research and partnerships with arts organisations across the UK and beyond. We campaign for access to the arts in healthcare environments and engage audiences in learning and debate on the subject of mental health and artistic practice.The gallery is free and open to all. Bethlem Gallery

A practical workshop exploration on Resilience, Relationship &amp; Return through poetry and storytelling with poet David Gilbert and creative collaborators Lila Palmer &amp; Rose M Hall. The day will wrap up with an informal showing of works from 2-3pm created in the session and a musical happening in which workshop participants are encouraged to take part. Resilience, Relationship &amp; Return is a pilot for a larger performance and series of workshops based on the modern fable <A HREF="https://futurepatientblog.com/2017/01/27/the-jewel-merchants-a-parable-for-healthcare/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">‘The Jewel Merchants’</A> by David Gilbert, a narrative based critical reflection on patient or client involvement.

Concession tickets are available for SLaM Service users, people over 60, students, people on jobseekers allowance and people registered as disabled. Assistants for people registered as disabled go free. For a paid event, we regret that tickets cannot be refunded unless the event is cancelled.
 
Rose &amp; Lila are a pair of bolshy twenty-thirty something creatives who make new music theatre together and other things separately. Rose is from London &amp; Lila is from Yorkshire. They like good stories, cackling loudly and telling awkward anecdotes. David is a mental health practitioner, service user and poet who thinks the arts seem more fun than the NHS, and is their newest superfan.
