Event description

Description

Northern Police Monitoring Project and the Racial Justice Network would like to invite you to a FREE panel discussion on the topic of ‘Resisting policing and racial injustice.’

The panel will be led by Professor Kathleen Cleaver, a former Black Panther, scholar at Emory University, and a fierce activist at the forefront of resisting police brutality and racial injustice. Professor Cleaver was the communications secretary for the Black Panther Party. She organised and promoted the important work of the organisation before fleeing to Algeria in 1960, where she helped set up in the International Office for the Black Panthers. After returning back to the US, she received a full scholarship at Yale University, before clerking in the US Court of Appeals in Philadelphia.

Kathleen will be joined by an incredible panel:

  • Malia Bouattia: former president of the National Union of Students and renowned anti-racism/anti-colonial activist

  • Peninah Wangari-Jones: Co-ordinator of the Racial Justice Network and anti-racist organiser with marginalised communities.

  • Akemia Minott: Respected Moss Side Youth Worker and founder of 8 4 Youth

NPMP and RJN rely on the generous donations of their members and supporters. Please consider donating to help fund their on-going organising around anti-racism, and anti-police brutality (https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/former-black-panther-prof-kathleen-cleaver/)

The money will be used for a variety of projects, including 'know your rights' workshops, training members of our community to monitor and document police abuse and organise crucial public events that support family campaigns fighting against police brutality and racial injustice.
