Reuse, React, Rewind.... Architects Share Thoughts
Three architects explore how Jersey’s buildings hold our past, shape our present, and guide our future through memory, reuse and reflection.
Three architects share three perspectives on how Jersey’s buildings carry our past, shape our present, and influence the future we’re making.
1. Alison Horton - Reuse… Celebrate, Create…
BA (Hons), DipArch, RIBA (Conservation Registrant)
Alison opens with a look at the creative transformation of existing buildings, highlighting how reuse can strengthen environmental, social and economic sustainability. She reflects on projects such as Archirondel Tower and Elizabeth Castle, and considers future opportunities for adaptive reuse across Jersey.
2. Joshua Noad - React
BA (Hons), MArch, ARB, RIBA, AJA
Joshua explores Churchill’s idea that “we shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us,” asking how this plays out in Jersey today. He considers whether our current processes help or hinder the shaping of a built environment that truly serves the Island and whether it may be time for change.
3. Mike Waddington - Rewind… Pause, Play, Fast‑Forward…
Architect, RIBA, FCSD
Mike closes with reflections on memory, time and architecture. Inspired by Walter Benjamin’s line “the work of memory collapses time,” he considers how we bring the past into the present while keeping the future firmly in view.
