Help restore our gardens! Join us to refresh the Level 4 terrace!

28th, 29th and 30th October 2025

The level 4 terrace at the IOE used to be filled with native trees and hedges, providing food and shelter for our local wildlife and an attractive, shady place to sit. Known as the Green Garden, it was designed to increase the biodiversity index of our concrete building and was part of the Euston Green Corridor. It was created by staff and student volunteers, who constructed all of the planters and carried tons of soil up the staircase. When the IOE Bar was opened in 2019, the planters were spread out along the terrace to provide shade and shelter, but if you’ve visited the Bar, you’ll have seen that this has not been successful.

We have now decided to recreate the Green Garden so that it once again attracts the birds, bees and butterflies – but we need your help.

On 28, 29 and 30 October you can come along anytime between 10am – 1pm to the IOE Level 4 Terrace to help us remove plants, assess what can be saved for replanting, and empty planters ready for repositioning. You can stay for however much time you can spare – even 10 minutes can be long enough to do something useful, and you don’t need any gardening experience.

Please contact Susan at susan.mcgrath.14@ucl.ac.uk if you plan to come along.
