Poetry is a living force; but it is often restricted by expectations, rules and anxieties. In this two-hour online session, we’ll use simple exercises, discussion and games to help you to reclaim the page, and to develop sustainable writing practices in the face of ambition and pressure. Taking our inspiration from the rewilding movement and its dynamic responses to ecological crisis, you can expect to write new and exciting poetry, to play with form, to feel part of a writing community – and most crucially – to have fun! All proceeds to Bridestones Rewilded CIC. This group of local volunteers are raising money to buy and restore Bridestones Moor in order to create Calderdale’s First Community Owned Nature Reserve, using a combination of crowdfunding, grants and philanthropic loans. Their fourth poetry collection - “Towards a General Theory of Love” (Bloodaxe, 2022) - won a Northern Writers Award and was a Poetry Society Book of the Year. They lecture at the University of Huddersfield, and run workshops with Wordsworth Grasmere, the Royal Literary Fund and the Arvon Foundation. Clare is a dynamic and popular teacher and performer who has written and presented for BBC Radio 3 and 4. From community projects to international festivals, all of Clare’s work is marked by a deep faith in the transformative power of language.
