Rhys Hollis aka Rhys' Pieces presents a scratch performance which explores 'Protest' through the lens of race and queerness.

With the current proposed laws surrounding protesting in Britain and the public unrest in the UK over the last 18 months , Rhys wants to research and develop a piece of movement and dance responding to protest at a time of lockdown; simultaneously explore how the act of protest can also be a bonding and healing tool for communities and individuals. This will draw on his experience as a mixed race black queer man and the Black Lives Matter Protests; the experience of being queer and black in North London and the journey to find and make sense of his own blackness in these times. Expect movement, dance, music, theatre, performance art, installation, lip sync, politics and of course 'a' protest. We would like to invite guests to join us in person to experience the work, provide feedback and help shape the next stage of developmentSunday 25 JulyDance 1, Wac Arts5pm - 6pmSuitable for those aged 14+Wac Arts, a charity based in North London set up the Recover programme, a participatory arts programme designed in response to the changing ways of living, learning, and engaging during the pandemic. Wac Arts launched the We Are Open commissions, an opportunity to invite artists to reflect on the individual and collective experiences of the pandemic and its impact. Wac Arts commissioned 6 artists to respond and work with communities. One of which was Rhys Hollis who wanted to dive deep into the powerful social movement that occurred during the pandemic. How can we join the movement from the confinement of our homes? How can we safely protest when we are meant to stay at home and protect? Rhys Hollis (Rhys Pieces) a former member of the Wac Arts weekend programme, is a multi-faceted performer, producer and artist. His work draws from a variety of sources: Gender, Mythology, pop culture, comedy, race, sexuality, substance issues and more. He creates through a mixture of performance artforms specialising in movement and dance, lip-sync, drag, neo-burlesque and rap and also hosting.
