KCL Humanitarian Mappers are a group of geographers based at King’s College London who like to run mapathons to add richness toOpen Street Map(OSM). OSM is like Wikipedia meets Google Maps – a map of the world, containing various information, that anyone can add to, edit and use. KCL Humanitarian Mappers

Join us for a night of mapping the River Thames to help artists and scientists understand the impact of waste plastics on aquatic environments and get the public engaged. A richer map of the Thames beaches will help KCL artist in residence Maria Arceo to identify where she can collect waste plastics in her year long campaign to collect rubbish along the entire tidal Thames. Throughout the evening there will be talks from a range of experts about the creative and scientific aspects of the project, who will also explain how you can get involved further. These will include partners from Thames 21, the Thames Estuary Partnership and King's College London. No previous mapathon experience is required - the KCL Humanitarian Mappers team will be on hand to help you develop the GIS skills required to contribute to OpenStreetMap.
Please bring a laptop and if you have one, a computer mouse. Pizza and drinks will be provided.
