RNLI in the Second World War Talk (Children's Half Term Event) 2026
6,376 lives were saved by RNLI crews during the Second World War.
Hear from one of the families who owe their lives to a rescue carried out by Margate’s lifeboat crew. David Richmond-Coggan has dedicated much of his time to the RNLI, driven in part by a rescue in 1946. Hear about this rescue, and the work of the RNLI during the extraordinary conditions of the Second World War, in a talk which brings the personal perspective to history.
This event is part of our February half term programming. From Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st February, there is a free event for children and families at the Stories of Courage exhibition at the Lighthouse every day at 10:30am.
The exhibition and event are free, but we ask for booking to estimate attendance numbers.
To find out more about the Stories of Courage 1939-45 exhibition at the Lighthouse and other free events, visit RNLI.org/Exhibition.
RNLI Stories of Courage 1939-45 is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to gather and share these memories.
