About the speakers:
Robert Joseph: The seminar will be chaired by the well-known wine business advisor and journalist Robert Joseph. “Robert is a truly original thinker with an encyclopedic knowledge of the global wine economy. He isalso a very talented public speaker”. He will include insights from his latest book: The Wine Sales & Marketing Toolkit.
Ayo Akintola is the much admired managing director of the high street retail chain Oddbins. Oddbins operates 47 retail outlets of which 31 are in London, 7 across the rest of England and 9 in Scotland. In addition to the retail estate, the Company has a Trade arm - Oddbins Wholesale, which supplies restaurants, bars and blue chip business, an Events division - Oddbins Events and an Ecommerce operation - Oddbins.com
Roger Jones, from The Harrow at Little Bedwin will present the on-trade perspective and how wine producers can succeed in this sector. He is the recent winner of the prestigious ‘Chairman’s award’ from Imbibe Magazine, and has had nearly 40 years in the Hospitality Business.
Roger writes a wine feature in The Caterer, blogs for Harpers, writes features for Glass of Bubbly, judges at The Decanter World Wine Awards, Germany’s top 100 Wines, The Sommelier Awards, The Welsh Wine Awards, The Moet Sommelier of the Year and regularly sits on the Decanter panel tastings.
Andrew Shaw is the buying director for the Bibendum PLB Group. Their multi-channel business supplies wines and drinks to the multiple and specialist off-trade from the PLB base, the independent retail and on-trade sector from Walker & Wodehouse Wines, and spirits and craft beer from Instil Drinks Co. Andrew is one of the UK’s most experienced buyers with many years of experience (including 6 years with Waitrose), his advice to any producer looking to crack the UK market will be absolutely invaluable.
Ray O’Connor is the Wine Director at Naked Wines, a crowd-funded wine retailer in the UK. He is responsible for finding the most talented independent winemakers in the world, and setting them up in business.
Following time spent working in wine retail in Ireland, Ray joined Gordon Ramsay’s team as Sommelier at the Michelin starred Maze. He went on to work with Decanter World Wine Awards before spending 6 years as Commercial Manager of the International Wine Challenge.
Gavin Quinney is the owner of Bordeaux property, Château Bauduc. From here he sells direct to consumers in the UK and makes wines specially for Gordon Ramsay, Rick Stein and Hotel du Vin. He also writes for Harpers Wine Magazine amongst other publications.
