<H2><STRONG>Invitation to a Roundtable on Smart Cities (Oxford)</STRONG></H2>

<P><STRONG>In 2019, the Green European Foundation, with the support of its partner foundations Bureau de Helling (The Netherlands), Green Economics Institute (United Kingdom), and Institute for Active Citizenship (Czech Republic), will create a Charter for the Smart City to assess and steer technological innovations in cities.</STRONG></P>
<P>10th August 2019, 11.00- 1600- in Oxford, UK <BR></P>
<P>This invitation-only roundtable is an event to be held as part of the transnational project <STRONG>A Charter for the Smart City,</STRONG> which aims to formulate guiding principles that help politicians to assess and steer technological innovations in European cities.</P>
<P>We would like to draw upon your expertise in order to collect best practises from all over Europe and develop a comprehensive Charter, which addresses the opportunities that new technologies offer for reducing the ecological footprint of cities and creating new urban commons, but also the threats they may present to civil liberties and social justice.</P>
<P>The roundtable, in English, will last from 11.00-16.00 and will take place in Oxford at the University. After the roundtable debate there will be space for informal networking.</P>

<H4>About the Event</H4>
<P>Drawing upon the expertise politicians and representatives from NGOs, trade unions, and technology sectors, the event will collect examples of best practices from across Europe to contribute to the development of a Charter, one which addresses the opportunities that new technologies offer for reducing the ecological footprint of cities and creating new urban commons, while also addressing the threats they might present to civil liberties and social justice.</P>
<H4>Programme</H4>
<P><STRONG>11.00-12.00:</STRONG> Introduction and Ice breaker</P>
<P><STRONG>12.00-13.00:</STRONG> First session – all participants will have the opportunity to give their input on the draft Charter.</P>
<P><STRONG>13.00-14.00:</STRONG> Lunch</P>
<P><STRONG>14.00- 16.00:</STRONG> Second session – focus on key issues and next steps towards developing the Charter.</P>
