A start-up course for everyone who wants to learn about rowing commentary!

Organised by two of the world's leading rowing commentators this hybrid event aims to teach you the skills you need to start commentating yourself!Applicants come from a wide variety of age and experience, and not everyone will aspire to the international career pathway we are looking to define. Rest assured that the skills offered during the day will suit everyone, whether you are looking to improve the commentary at your home regatta, or shine at the Paris Olympics, or something in between!You can choose whether to join the event in-person or on-line (in which case you will be sent the Zoom link the day before the event). The session will also be recorded in case you can't attend either way.During the day we will try and tailor the content around the needs of attendees, so be prepared to say something about yourself during the introductions. We will cover essential topics such as a structured approach to commentary, information gathering, voice delivery, the risk of a disconnect between brain and mouth, the use of silence, painting word pictures, how to fill air space, and much more besides!

The facilitators for the day are World Rowing consultants Peter O'Hanlon and Robert Treharne Jones, who have worked together at events right around the globe, including the Tokyo Olympics.

After the session closes everyone will be asked to send in an audition tape of themselves commentating on a world championship final, and the best candidates will be invited to work alongside experienced commentators at the National Schools Regatta, to be held May 27-29 at Eton Dorney.
