Rumi’s Circle, in association with MACFEST, present our first Manchester whirling workshop.
Sufi whirling (or turning) is a form of moving meditation rich with spiritual symbolism. The dervishes’ turning bodies echo the motion of the planets, emptying themselves to receive and channel divine grace. Join Rumi’s Circle to explore the roots of this sacred tradition, with poetry by Jalaluddin Rumi. This practical workshop is accessible to all, offering a chance to witness a demonstration by dervishes from the Mevlevi Order and to learn the basics of the whirling technique. Please bring leather socks or smooth-soled shoes.
Rumi’s Circle presents poetry, music, and whirling events that highlight the wisdom of Mevlana Rumi, the 13th century Sufi Mystic. Rumi’s Circle is part of the Threshold Society Mevlevi Order, based on the teachings of Shaikh Kabir and Shaikha Camille Helminski.
MACFEST is a ground-breaking Manchester-based festival celebrating art, literature, music, culture and the heritage of the Muslim diaspora. MACFEST aims to bring Muslim and non-Muslim communities together, promote social inclusion and overcome barriers. This great initiative is led by prize-winning author and peace activist Qaisra Shahraz FRSA, recently featured in the prestigious Power 100 list of the most influential Muslims in the UK.
