About this event

  • 1 day 7 hours

This introductory course is designed for road or trail runners who are looking to try mountain or fell running for the first time or who are looking to build confidence. It is a relaxed and sociable experience, with no emphasis on pace - there will be plenty of walking, plus faff and snack stops, and nobody gets left behind! The weekend will develop your skills and autonomy for running in the mountain environment. It is also designed and led 'for-women-by-women'.

The course can be covered by our Access Fund which helps facilitate access for women facing additional barriers (see details below). You can also purchase a ticket and attend as normal. There are two ticket types available at checkout.

Day 1 covers ascending and descending technique for steep/rough terrain and mountain safety, along with advice on navigation and kit/shoes.

Day 2 will be more of a mountain journey. Your running guides will provide kit-check, navigation and route-planning so that you can focus on your running and fully enjoy the experience!

Our experienced local guides are Summer Mountain Leader qualified and Fell Running Association (FRA) accredited, with outdoor first aid certification.

Some trail running or hill walking experience is beneficial to get the most out of this weekend. If you can comfortably run 10km on trail then you will be more than fit enough to enjoy this weekend!

Please note you will find it useful for have your own transport/carshare arrangement to access the start of your run each day. If you are visiting without your own transport, just let us know and we'll facilitate a carshare arrangement with other attendees where possible. We will also encourage lift-sharing whilst in Glencoe, to reduce environmental impact and pressure on busy parking areas. This course can be accessed by public transport and is walking distance from the local bus stop.

Once booked, we will email you at the beginning of event week to confirm final details. This email will also include a kit list, travel options and advice on where to park. We will meet up to check kit and discuss final plans for each day over coffee before we start!

After booking, we will email you with information on what to wear and bring with you.

We pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable' so please please do get in touch with any concerns or queries you might have now or nearer to the event. Otherwise, you can see our FAQs.

FULLY FUNDED TICKETS

This event is FREE to women who are eligible via our Access Fund criteria. If this is YOU, there is no need to 'apply' - we don't expect you to complete an application form or justify your need. Free places are allocated in good faith. We aim to help as many women as possible experience the health and wellbeing benefits that come with mountain running. We don't cover food or accommodation however, allowing you the flexibility to choose your own to suit travel logistics or budget. There is plenty of budget accommodation available locally, such as hostels/ bunkhouses/pods and we can provide recommendations upon request.

PLEASE NOTE: Fully-funded events like this are high-risk for event organisers, as it's common for participants to book early, then cancel at short notice due to the absence of a financial commitment. Please only book a space with us if you're reasonably confident you will be able to attend (we do of course understand that sometimes life just gets in the way!) Our aim is to make this opportunity available to as many women as possible and avoid waste/empty spaces on the event. The Access Fund is supported by our crowdfunding campaign. Your understanding and support is very much appreciated.

We look forward to having some fun and showing you the many joys of running in the mountains and sharing time in wide open spaces with likeminded women!
