FilmBath is the heart of the film world in Bath and home of the F-Rating, the IMDb Awards and FilmBath Festival (previously Bath Film Festival) 7 - 17 November 2019. FilmBath Festival (previously Bath Film Festival) has been screening brilliant films in Bath for 28 years. Every autumn the festival presents a great range of new-to-view features, shorts and docs from across the world, plus insider talks, talent awards and special strands focusing on films made by women, classic cinema, family viewing, sci-fi, art & design and more.

In common with many societies at the time, 1930s Sweden was gripped by racial theories on the inferiority of certain groups – in this case, the Sami (once better known as Laplanders). Like other indigenous peoples, they were subjected to all manner of degradation and forced to disown their language and customs. This is the plight of Elle Marja, our 14-year-old reindeer-herding protagonist, and writer/director Amanda Kernell captures the complexity of her predicament with exquisite empathy and understanding.
