Location

Leigh Library Civic Square Leigh WN7 1EB United KingdomAbout this event
The Turnpike Gallery is hosting a series of free drop-in art & craft workshops for families led by experienced artist, poet and theatre-maker Gemma Lees. Come along to meet other families and try new sustainable creative activities inspired by our local heritage and environment!
Here's some of the sessions we have planned...
Bottle Gardens - Use upcycled sweet jars, pebbles and foliage to create your own mini bottle garden to take home. Add your own furniture, decorations and inhabitants!
Bowtop Caravan Design - Discover how to make your own 3D bowtop caravan, and learn about Gemma's own Romany Gypsy cultural heritage.
Plastic Wreath - Using recycled materials such as plastic bottles and bags, we will create plastic flower sculptures to add to our own sustainable decorative wreaths.
Natural Dye Painting - Experiment by painting with dyes made from fruits, vegetables and spices and learn about how these natural pigments are made.
Fruit & Veggie Prints - Printmaking with the natural patterns found in fruit and veg - the circular spread of lines from the mushroom, the cobbles effect of a corn on the cob, the tree shape provided by cauliflower and the shape of a flower cut in half!
All workshops are suitable for families with children aged 5+, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All sessions are drop-in, no need to book. If the session is full you may be asked to wait until a space becomes available.
